What's New at Lawndale?

Scaffolding reaches the top of Lawndale's tower
Replicas of Lawndale's original windows will soon replace the existing aluminum frames as efforts by C&S Millwork of Sanford get underway. A few of the original wooden sash windows were available to use as templates including three with multicolored glass borders originally mounted in the tower's third floor. The replacement windows will look and operate just as they did in the late 1870's.

Scaffolding surrounds the tower

Scaffolding erected in June of 2002 will facilitate the window replacement work as well as restoration of water-damaged exterior siding and window casements.

The interior plaster walls and ceilings on Lawndale's first floor did not fair well during repairs to the foundation. The cracked and loosened surfaces will be removed this summer and replaced with a new coat over the existing lath boards.
